Optimal Transportation and Applications

On some optimization problems involving matrices of large sizes

speaker: Wilfrid Gangbo (University of California, Berkeley)

abstract: The past few years have witnessed an increased amount of efforts to characterize solutions to optimal transportation problems in non commutative settings. These studies were motivated by finding appropriate metrics for equations in quantum mechanics, but may also be relevant in quantum game theory. In this talk, we study the Biane and Voiculescu metric and state a duality result. We comment on limits of systems of m–tuples of n×n matrices, as n tend to infinity. (This talk is based on a joint work with D. Jekel, K. Nam and D. Shlyakhtenko)
