Population Dynamics and Statistical Physics in Synergy II

Genealogical construction of the Bolker-Pacala model

speaker: Thomas Kurtz (University of Wisconsin - Madison)

abstract: The Bolker-Pacala model is a spatial birth and death process in which the rate at which an individual has an offspring placed at a particular site and the rate at which an individual dies depend upon the population distribution in a neighborhood of the individual. Using methodology developed in papers with Eliane Rodrigues (2011) and Alison Etheridge (2019), the model is constructed in a way that captures both the evolution of the population distribution forward in time and the genealogy looking backward in time. With this construction, in an appropriately scaled infinite population limit both the population distribution and the genealogy converge.
